For most small business owners, time is always running out. No matter what we do there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get sh*t done. This makes the day-to-day running of your business hard enough, let alone finding time to carry out all those marketing tips for small business that you’ve been meaning to work on.

If you feel like you have no time in the day, you need to start automating your systems and processes. This is one of the most common marketing tips for small business owners, yet it is so often pushed to the end of the to-do-list. Trust me, it isn’t as complex or intimidating as it seems. All the time you spend figuring out and setting up automation will save you hours in the long run.

Never Write The Same Thing Twice

Do you find yourself writing the same emails over and over again? Maybe you’re frequently posting similar social media posts, or writing multiple blog posts that follow the same structure. I know a way to make all that repetition work for you. Meet your new best friend: Templates.

From promotional emails to blogs and social media posts, templates will help you save time and effort on all of your marketing copy. Your templates can be as detailed or as vague as you need them to be. You could have an exact template of the welcome email sequence you send to all of your new clients or a flexible template for your blogs that outlines your general structure and sign off. A template will not only save you from writing the same thing twice but will give you structure to go off when you’re working on new marketing copy.

Give Yourself Creative Prompts

Being creative takes time. If you have ever wasted an hour staring at your screen trying to come up with a witty Facebook post or relatable blog topic, you know just how time-consuming creativity can be. Fortunately, there are prompts you can set up for yourself to move past these creative blocks. 

It’s all about finding inspiration. Compile a list of websites and social media pages that inspire you and, whenever you feel strapped for ideas, go have a browse. I’m NOT by any means telling you to steal ideas or posts. Instead, see what your colleagues and competitors have to offer and pinpoint the gaps in their knowledge that you can fill. Use their work as a jumping-off point and I guarantee the creative juices will start flowing in no time.

Pay To Play

Organic content is great, but it can take a lot of time before you see any return on investment. If you’re here for time-saving marketing tips for small business, it often pays to pay a little. Google and social media advertising can give you the same reach as organic content in a much shorter timespan. 

My only note here is to be careful how you go about creating paid ads. The success of paid ads largely depends on your account manager knowing what they’re doing. Make sure there is some sort of guarantee in place so that you aren’t shelling out a fortune to an advertising agency that doesn’t deliver results.

Outsource

My last tip is pure and simple. Get someone else to do all that tedious, time-consuming, nitty-gritty marketing work for you. Outsourcing is another one of those scary words that sends business owners running for the hills. They think it will be expensive and yield low-quality work that they will need to re-do anyway. 

I won’t lie to you, this is a possibility. Finding good quality contractors is easier said than done, but once you do find them, you’ll never want to let them go. The easiest way to find reliable contractors is to go by referrals. Ask around and gather honest testimonials to give yourself an accurate idea of what you can expect. This will stop you from wasting your time trialling  dozens of average workers before you find the right one.
